Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) used President Trump’s “Made In America” campaign to knock the administration, wearing a lookalike of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hat, but with “Trump, Putin 2016” written on it.
Lieu debuted the hat on Twitter Tuesday, sharing a selfie of himself wearing the hat outside of congress.
“Wearing this special hat for White House Made in America week. Unlike the products of [Trump] and Ivanka Trump it’s Made in America!” Lieu tweeted.
Trump’s “Made In America” campaign is a three-week effort to highlight American jobs and U.S.-made goods. It’s expected to be the beginning of the White House’s push for tax reform.
Many have pointed out that some merchandise from the Trump campaign is not Made in America. It has also been widely reported that parts of Ivanka Trump’s clothing line are manufactured outside of the U.S.
“Donald Trump Jr. clearly violated the Federal Election Campaign Act by conspiring to solicit something of value from a foreign national,” Lieu said last week on MSNBC.
“And as a former prosecutor, I can tell you that conspiracy is very easy to prove. You just have to show he took an act in furtherance of the crime and in this case not only did he write an email back saying ‘I love it,’ getting the dirt on Hillary Clinton, he also set up a meeting and showed up at the meeting. That more than completes the crime of conspiracy.”
