New businesses opening in Zionsville may soon be welcomed to the town with promotional goodies if a new fund is created by the Zionsville Town Council.

The council, on Monday, March 6, approved the creation of the Zionsville Promotion of Business Fund, on first reading. The council could move dollars from the general or other funds to this new one to pay for expenses “incurred in promoting, marketing and for the economic development efforts of the town,” states the ordinance.

This would largely be Zionsville promotional items for when visitors come to the town, said Amanda Dorman, director of communications and community relations. Or new businesses could receive a welcome kit with things like a mug, a tote bag, a notebook, and pens. These items could also be sold to the public to generate some income.
